Joining the Ranks

Today hubby and I filled out the online form to collect unemployment. It was quite a defeating moment. He's been laid off off-and-on for the last few weeks, but word came that there probably won't be any work for the next 2 weeks (i.e., the rest of March) for him.

Michigan's economy just stinks. The unemployment rate here was almost 12% in January. I can't imagine what it is right now. Since he does repair and remodeling, he correctly guessed that a lot of unemployed men are doing their own repairs and not hiring him. It trickles down.

I've been working all I can to help out, but we really need some income from him. I think unemployment will just put is in the "okay zone" as far as obligations go.

He's taken this pretty hard. Today he was moping a bit, and when I asked him what was wrong he said, "I'm tired, and I should be at work right now." He is not the kind of guy that can just sit around idle. He has to be doing something.

I reminded him (lovingly of course) that there is plenty of work to be done around here.

Yeah...probably not the right time to say that. ;)
