Twins!
I've started lettuce (6 plants), broccoli (18 plants), and Brussels sprouts (6 plants). We eat a lot of broccoli obviously. Have you ever seen a Brussels sprouts plant fully grown? They look like little palm trees. I like them...I have yet to see if the kids will "bite." ;)
I am SO excited that they've sprouted though! It's only been a few days. Now I have to wait until the Michigan soil warms up and the freezes are done with. I'll be starting some tomatoes and green peppers in a couple of weeks. This is one way I am going to combat the economy/lay-off situation we have going on. I figure we usually spend $20/week during the summer on fresh fruits and vegetables. I'm using a variant of square-foot gardening, so I won't be growing a lot of extra food...just what we need. And believe me, if you would see my kids eating broccoli, you'd understand my reasoning for planting 18 plants worth. ;)
I also ordered a blackberry bush for free last night at Spring Hill Nursery. Right now they're giving away $20 worth of products for free (you pay shipping). So I got some blackberries

and some Aster flowers:
and some Salvia:

I paid just over $10 for all of it to be shipped. Yay! Anyone else doing any gardening??
